Here is a bird I have put a lot of flight time in.This is the Lockheed Hudson,also known as the Lockheed 14.Its the bigger and more powerful brother to the previous Lockheed 10.Howard Hughes set a around the world record in 1937 with a Lockheed 14.
A side note:a certain little pixie always seems to get in my pictures.

Was this model available before Amelia Earhart left on her last flight? If so, I wonder why she didn't go with this instead of the 10? With more power, it might have been a shorter trip, and if she missed Howland, she might have made it to another island and landed safely.

Last night I read a book by Frederick Forsyth called "The Shepherd." You'd like it. It's about a young fighter pilot flying home to England from German in 1952. His plane develops an electrical problem and his compass and radio are knocked out somewhere over the North Sea. Suddenly, a WWII-vintage Mosquito appears next to him and leads him to a safe landing. The story has a very mysterious twist to it. It's a wonderful book. I don't want to ruin the entire story for you, but trust me: it's a story you'll love. Check your local library for it. Frederick Forsyth was the youngest fighter pilot in the RAF - he was 19 when he joined.
Oh yeah - when his plane has the electrical failure, the usual pea-soup nighttime fog that is common in the area has moved in and he has know way of knowing where he is and he only has about 30 minutes of fuel left!
Not sure of the exact dates at the moment but either the 14 wasn't available yet and/or it would have been much more expensive(but not for Howard,LOL).
Sounds like a interesting read.Will keep it in mind.
